Hiwi the Kiwi

Yesterday Pt England School got a visit from Hiwi the Kiwi. Hiwi the Kiwi came to visit Pt England School so we can learn how to look after our beautiful animals in New Zealand. They explained to us what have been happening in to our animals. Mr Minstrel heard about these beautiful birds and their species dieing because we have been littering a lot and the birds have been finding our rubbish and eating them thinking it's fish. Mr and Mrs Minstrel taught us how to catch the right fish and what kind of water or ice to put it in once you have caught it. They told us stories about how they went fishing and their cool adventures. I enjoyed listening to Mr and Mrs Minstrel because they have taught us to not only care about our beautiful animals of New Zealand but they taught us how to catch the right fish and if we do what they told us there would be more fish in the future for us to eat and to also look after our beaches.

Cross Country

On Friday it was Cross Country for Pt England School. I am a year 8 and this was my last year for Cross Country and of course I did my best in Cross Country. The year 8 girls went last for the run but that didn't stop us from having fun while running last. As soon as Mr Burt said 1, 2, 3 all I could hear was a bang and all of us girls ran as fast as we could but me on the other hand I was so tired I just wanted to stop but I had to try my best especially since it was my last year for Cross Country. Once my second lap was all most over I just needed to past the gate and sprint to the finish line. All I could hear was people cheering for me and the other girls I was running with which was Finau, May, Raewen, Marilyn & Jessica. My stitch just couldn't go away but that didn't stop me from beating the girls. As soon as we past the gate we all sprinted it and she ran past the park which was pretty sore because we were running on bark but anyway all I could see was the finish line and all I could think about is running towards it so I could finally stop. I was so happy because I was behind the girls but in the end I bet them. I felt so happy that it was finally over and I felt to happy that the parents and teachers encouraged me and the girls and the rest of the school to run and to try our best and I really liked the advice they gave us like be selfish with your running and support our mates but don't stop to chat with them.

How Our Muscles Work

Do you know how our muscles work?
If you don’t know how our muscles work or you want to learn about them, then keep reading and you’ll find out.

Everyone has more than 600 muscles in our bodies Yes more than 600. Muscles are so important for us people because it gives us strength and power and without muscles we would probably be dead and we wouldn’t be able to move at all. We all have 3 types of muscles which are called Cardiac, Skeletal muscles & Smooth muscles.

The Cardiac muscles, skeletal muscles & the smooth muscles have really important jobs so keep reading and I will tell you what they do. The Cardiac muscle is so important because it is the muscle for our heart and which our heart keep us alive.  The thick muscles of our heart is purposed to pump blood out and then relax to let the blood back in after it has been circulated through the body. Skeletal muscles are just as important as the Cardiac muscle because this muscle controls what we do like for example without this muscle we wouldn’t be able to walk, move our head, exercise and a lot more.

Last but not least Smooth muscles. Smooth muscles are found in our stomach, intestines, uterus, bladder and blood vessels.  Smooth muscles work on their own without us being aware of it. If we have finished eating the Smooth muscles help by moving the food through the digestive tract.

Muscles are really important to us people because it helps us survive life so I encourage you to take care of your body so that you can be nice and healthy in the future and I hope you take care of your body more often after reading this.

BFG

On Wednesday the 10th of August Rm 1 literacy class went to the cinemas in Sylvia park to watch the new realest movie called BFG. The teacher of Rm 1 Mr Wiseman decided to take his literacy class to watch the BFG because his class has been working so hard in literacy and he also let other hard working people in other classes to join him. I really enjoyed watching the BFG because it was a really interesting movie. What I liked about the movie was how there was a happily ever after for the girl because she got adopted from the Queen and before that she was just a normal orphan girl before he adventure began. I also liked how one of the giants called BFG stood up for himself and in the end he had a great life and he was free and as for the other giants they got trapped in an island and couldn't escape because there was water everywhere and they were terrified of water. In the end everyone had a happily ever after but not for the bad giants.

Writing about how the Olympics came to be

Introduction - What are the Olympics? What are you going to explain?
What are the Olympics? What do you do at the Olympics? When Did it start? If you don’t know what the Olympics are keep reading and you’ll find out.

Info - Paragraph one - What is the main piece of information about how the  Olympics began? The first ever Olympic games started in April the 6th 1896. In 1896 married women were banned from watching or participating in the Olympics, but unmarried women were allowed to attend the competition. I think that women were not allowed to compete in the Olympics because they had their own games which was called the Hera games. The Hera games started in the 6th century where they competed dressed. I also think that because the men were pretty much naked as they were participating in the Olympics, it would have been uncomfortable for the women to participate in the Olympics while they were naked or half naked like the men.

Info - Paragraph two - What is a second piece of info about the starting of the Olympics? 4 years later after the Olympics started, women were finally allowed to compete in the Olympics which took place in Paris France . That year was the ever year women were allowed to compete in the Olympics but only 22 women competed with a total of 997 athletes. The 22 women that competed participated in 5 sports which was Tennis, Sailing, Croquet, Equestrianism and Golf.

Info - Paragraph three - What is the third piece of info about the starting of the Olympics? Do you know who Dimitrios Loundras is?
Dimitrios Loundras was confirmed that he was the youngest Olympic medalist who competed in the 1896 Athens Olympics. He was only 10 years old when he received a bronze medal in a team event on April the 9th 1896. But if you discount the young coxain who won gold in 1900 Dimitrios Loundras was still confirmed to compete in the Olympics.

Conclusion - The conclusion sums up all the ideas and repeats a key message to end.  This could be a recommendation or a personal connection. If you didn’t know there is an Olympics in Rio this year ( 2016 ) I think the Olympic games are a great sporting event because it’s great that once in every 4 years the Olympics is held somewhere and we get to learn about the different countries and how good they are are sports and that encourages people to be nice and fit as they grow up.
